Diesel & Eco Car – Issue 433 – Christmas 2022

You really can’t miss the December 2022 issue of Diesel&EcoCar, as we announce the Diesel Top 50, celebrating the very best diesel cars on sale in the UK today. What will be number one, and who are the mover and shakers? <Tony Blackburn mode off>

The cover of Diesel&EcoCar depicts a very important concept car, one that is set to shape the future of both Citroën and future mobility. You can read all about Citroën’s new brand image and the concept car made out of cardboard. We’ve also got the first details about the Polestar 3, the monstrous BMW XM, and pictures of the Mercedes-Benz EQE SUV. Renault’s 4Ever concept was revealed at the Paris motor show, and we’ve got the first shots, along with the facelifted DS 3, the upgraded Peugeot e-208 and updates for both the Mercedes-Benz A- and B-Class. Finally, we’ve got photographs of the beautiful all-electric Maserati GranTurismo Folgore.

This month’s twin test sees the DS 4 face the Audi A3 Sportback – which one is triumphant in an intense battle of the premium brands? We also drive the Alfa Romeo Tonale on UK soil, get behind the wheel of the interesting new Hyundai Ioniq 6, and try out the seven-seat Ford Grand Tourneo Connect for size. We also test the Range Rover in seven-seat long-wheelbase guise and put the Genesis GV70 Electrified through its paces. We finally get to try out the diesel edition of the facelifted Jaguar E-Pace and test the Peugeot e-2008 with extra range.

The long-term test fleet has got a boost as we say hello to a Volvo V90 Cross Country diesel, a Kia Niro Hybrid and Suzuki Swift Sport, but wave goodbye to the Citroën C3 Aircross. We also take a virtual trip around the world, exploring what products Audi has to offer in other markets outside of the UK. But that’s not all, we also have your favourites, including The Doctor, Fuel for Thought, Motor Grump, Autojumble, Bright Spark, Road Watch, Techzone, Current Affairs and Gadget Inspector, as well as focusing on braking systems in our Tuning and Modifying section. That’s in addition to the most up-to-date data section in the business. It really is a packed issue with 148 pages, the biggest of the year in fact, you really can’t miss it.

Description

This month, we wave goodbye to a dear friend, a colleague, and a motoring legend, as we announce the sad death of Sue Baker. For over 50 years she was a trailblazer in the world of motoring, and here at Diesel&EcoCar, we’re really going to miss her. She had been suffering with Motor Neurone Disease for the past few years and the cruel disease took her from us far too soon. In this month’s issue we have a tribute to her motoring life that spanned five decades, including more than 20 years contributing to this very magazine, and having the accolade of being the longest running television presenter of BBC’s Top Gear programme.

Elsewhere, we test the facelifted BMW 3 Series Touring – is it still as great as it has always been, and the pick of the compact executive crop? We also get behind the wheel of the updated Citroën C5 Aircross, drive the excellent new Nissan X-Trail and try out the Volkswagen ID.5 on UK roads. We also welcome a Citroën e-C4 to the long-term fleet to see what it’s like to live with day-to-day with the electric French family hatch. This month’s used car buyer’s guide is all about the Dacia Duster, the cheapest new SUV on the market, but how does it fare as a secondhand buy?

But that’s not all, we also have your favourites, including The Doctor, Fuel for Thought, Motor Grump, Autojumble, Bright Spark, Road Watch, Techzone, Current Affairs and Christmas Gadget Inspector, as well as focusing on the Mercedes-Benz E 350 BlueTec in our Tuning and Modifying section. That’s in addition to the most up-to-date data section in the business. There’s even a Christmas Crossword, so that you can escape the family over the festive period and test your motoring knowledge.
