Considering that just three examples of the Golf Alltrack were sold in the UK during 2020, we’re quite surprised that it has survived to see another generation. It first made an appearance back in 2016 and a grand total of 481 examples have been sold up until the end of last year. That kind of number isn’t going to blow anyone’s socks off, so let’s hope that Volkswagen sees a livening of sales for this latest Golf 8 edition. Under the bonnet, the Alltrack shares the same 197bhp engine as is found in the GTD, and is paired to a 4Motion all-wheel-drive system. There’s increased ground clearance, a chunkier exterior and rugged roof rails. It’s all designed to give the impression of an SUV, all wrapped up in a more practical compact estate bodystyle.
