Our cars: Dacia Jogger Report 2

MODEL ON TEST: EXTREME HYBRID 155 AUTOMATIC – MILEAGE – 5,334

As promised, the Dacia has taken us not once, not twice, but three times to Wales this month and as expected has pleasantly surprised us on every occasion.

DARREN MANN
With the final trip being a week long trip, my wife enthusiastically accepted the challenge to make the most of the impressive 699 litres of boot space once the ‘back back’ seats were folded down. May I also add, that if we ever needed to fold down the middle row of seats, this Dacia offers an incredible 2,085 litres of boot capacity.

Considering we had a car full to the brim, four passengers and an unhealthy amount of travel snacks, the 1,789cc, 156bhp powertrain ensured that our journey along the M54 proved an effortless, comfortable and cost effective one with a return of an impressive 60.5 mpg on test. And then onto the undulating Welsh roads we ventured. Just as I’d hoped, the car performs best when tackling the winding roads. The 16-inch tyres stick reassuringly to the tarmac offering assurance around the tightest of bends. Even when the automatic front wipers briefly sprung into life, my confidence in the car’s handling never once waned, and with the most valuable of cargo on board this is very reassuring indeed (did I mention there were salt and vinegar Discos!).

The Jogger handles surprisingly well. (Diesel&EcoCar)

Pulling away at busy junctions feels effortless thanks to the 127lb ft of torque from the engine and a bonus 151lb ft from the electric motor. Surprisingly, the relatively small 1.4kWh battery pack regenerates quickly and delivers punchy zero-emissions driving capability. Just as impressive is the way that the six-speed multi-mode automatic gearbox performs, which shifts the gears with such seamless precision that the changes are practically unnoticeable.

The Jogger delivered a very positive impression during our ventures across the ‘Land of Song’. It will be Sammy’s turn to write the main report next month as she gets behind the wheel for the first time.

SAMMY MANN
I always enjoy being a passenger when we go to Wales on holiday. I drive a lot, so to sit back and take in the breathtaking views is a delight. This was elevated to new heights this month in the Jogger because I had intoxicating sounds to go with my view. I find myself mesmerised listening to the engine sounds changing as the car switches seamlessly from battery to engine and back again and engrossed by the dashboard display as the car swaps between the two modes. I really noticed the power of the car, and how effortlessness it seems to be when overtaking. The Jogger really is a delight as a family car.

It can handle lots of luggage on trips to Wales. (Diesel&EcoCar)

LOGAN MANN (AGED 9)
I love the push out windows when sat in the ‘back, back’ of the car. I can plug my tablet in to charge on the longer journeys.

BARNEY MANN (AGED 6)
Daddy’s chair is really far away from my legs now and I love having lots of room. I enjoy hearing the tune the car plays as we get in.

WHAT’S HOT: The Jogger’s handling through bends is superb.

WHAT’S NOT: It is a little ‘enthusiastic’ with its warning alerts.
