Fiat 500 passes 100,000 milestone in the UK

Further proof of the Fiat 500 city car’s outstanding success in the UK was revealed today with the news that the 100,000th example was sold here last month – just four and a half years since its launch.

The passing of this significant milestone demonstrates beyond doubt that the Fiat 500 is still high on customer shortlists when it comes to choosing a new supermini. It follows on from April’s official UK sales figures in which the 500 was placed inside the top 10 best sellers with 2,600 vehicles sold.

The figure breakdown reveals that:

  • 80 per cent of all 500 sales have been 1.2-litre petrol engine versions;
  • Eight per cent of sales are of the new 0.9-litre two cylinder TwinAir version, which was not introduced until 2010;
  • 48 per cent of cars purchased are in the top-of-the-range Lounge trim;
  • The most popular colour choices are Bossanova white, Pasodoble red, Volare light blue and the metallic Crossover black

The popular three door hatchback has been released over the years in a number of limited edition versions such as 500 Pink, 500 Matt Black, 500byGucci, and 500byDiesel.

“We were always confident that the 100,000 landmark would come,” says Elena Bernardelli, marketing director, Fiat Group Automobiles UK Ltd. “It’s a wonderful achievement and I am sure that we will see many more sales successes in the years to come.”

Available with a choice of ultra-low emissions Euro 5 engines: 85bhp 0.9-litre TwinAir, 69 bhp 1.2-litre and 95 bhp 1.3-litre MultiJet turbodiesel, the Fiat 500 has a starting price of just £9,960 OTR for the 1.2 Pop, representing outstanding value for money.
