The Transparent Factory in Dresden has begun series production of the fully electric ID.3. This makes it the second production site for the ID.3 and the fourth site in the world producing Volkswagen models based on the Modular Electric Drive Toolkit (MEB).
For the first time Volkswagen is offering a fully electric SUV – the ID.4. As the second model from the brand to be launched on the dedicated MEB platform, it will also offer four-wheel drive at a later date. Like the ID.3, the new model is being launched as a limited-run 1ST Edition with a range of pre-configured trim levels to follow later in the year. The ID.4 1ST Edition will cost £37,800 after the plug-in vehicle grant is applied, and is expected to arrive in dealerships during March.
For the first time, the Volkswagen Arteon is now available with an electrified drivetrain in the form of a plug-in hybrid. The system comprises a 1.4-litre TSI petrol engine supported by an electric motor, together providing a peak power output of 215 bhp and torque of 295 lb ft. Prices start at £39,905 for the fastback in Elegance trim.

The last Volkswagen e-Golf has rolled off the production line at VW’s ‘Transparent Factory’ in Dresden. With the e-Golf in Urano Grey, a total of 50,401 vehicles have been manufactured in Dresden since March 2017. At the beginning of the new year 2021, the production area of the Transparent Factory will be reconstructed for three weeks before the first ID.3 series vehicles roll off the assembly lines in Dresden at the end of January.
