Production of the first all-new MG in 16 years, the MG6, has started at MG Motor UK’s factory.
Customer Car No 1 came off the final assembly line in the Car Assembly Building at the firm’s plant at MG Birmingham marking the start of a new era in the 87 year history of the iconic MG brand. It was driven off the line by Lisa Ponter, currently the only woman working on the production line. The sports fastback model was designed and engineered by a team of professionals at the UK plant.
Three trim models of the 1.8-litre turbocharged petrol MG6 are available with prices ranging from £15,495 to £18,995 for the top-of-the-range highly-equipped TSE model.
As well as have a very high level of standard equipment, the MG6 has particularly low levels of insurance. The entry model MG6 S is rated 13E while the SE and TSE are 14E – comparable rivals are several categories above, making the MG particularly attractive from an insurance perspective.
Dealer demonstrators are being delivered to MG’s dealer network and the first deliveries to customers will take place next month.
A diesel is set to be added to the line-up next year.
