Peugeot has announced the new 3008 SUV in advance of its formal launch at this autumn’s Paris Motor Show.

With a longer wheelbase and an overall length just 80mm longer than that of the current model, interior space has improved, most notably for rear occupants who now have an additional 24mm legroom, 4mm elbow room and 36mm headroom. Front elbow space has also increased by 17mm despite the width of the new model being identical to the outgoing version at 1840mm, and height being 19mm lower at 1620mm.

Luggage space has also improved in the new 3008 SUV. With a luggage capacity of 520 litres (under the luggage cover), this is almost 90 litres bigger than the previous generation. Like the previous version, owners can remove the luggage cover and fold the second row of seats flat; this results in a total luggage capacity of 1580 litres.

The new model is, on average, 100kg lighter than the previous generation versions. This has been achieved though intelligent design and use of materials. Very High Strength Steel (VHSS) and Ultra High Strength Steel (UHSS) have been used in the vehicles’ construction, with a thermoplastic boot floor and tailgate and aluminium wings, front suspension arms and rear seat frames. More refined engines are also said to allow for a reduction in sound-deadening materials.

The new 3008 comes with the latest generation Peugeot i-Cockpit layout and the folding bench seat has a 2/3 – 1/3 ‘Magic Flat’ capability to optimise loading with a flat floor. The adaptable moving boot floor, initiated on the original 3008, has been evolved with two positions to allow the optimisation of boot space and removable side-panels that can be affixed to the side boot trim. For the carrying of long objects, the front passenger seat can be folded to allow a smaller width item of 3 metres to be carried (like skis) on all versions.

Connectivity facilities include MirrorScreen, induction Smartphone recharging (for equipment compatible with the Qi standard) and 3D connected navigation, which displays images of buildings and monuments while taking into account the contours of the terrain.

With the Mirror Screen function, a Smartphone screen can be reproduced on the touch-screen to make best use of its applications. It is compatible with MirrorLink protocols (Android smartphones), Android Auto and Apple Carplay (iPhone 5 onwards). And with a touch of a button on the steering wheel, there is a remote voice recognition function through the smartphone (Android S-Voice and Apple Siri). For the first time, technology from French acoustics specialist FOCAL will be factory fitted to a production model in the 3008.

Peugeot is also offering with the 3008 a folding scooter with electric assist (e-Kick) by MICRO or a folding bike with electric assistance (e-Bike) by Peugeot itself.

Alongside four petrol models, customers also have a choice of five diesel engine options, with BlueHDi technology capable of reducing emissions to just 100g/km:

The new Peugeot 3008 SUV will be officially revealed at the Paris Motor Show 2016 in September where pricing and specifications will be announced. It will be available to order in the UK from November with first deliveries due in January 2017.
